Three Sections based on ability, not age, grading limits to be decided on the day

Open (for stronger players)
Major (good club players)
Minor (for inexperienced players)

Do you have an English Chess Federation Grade? CHECK IT HERE. We use your ECF to determine eligibility for sections.

Format: 6 rounds = 6 games of chess, Swiss system - NOT A KNOCKOUT
Rate of play: 25 minutes per player for the game plus 5 seconds per move from the start
Start of the tournament
: Rounds 1 starts at 10.30am.  The event will finish before 6pm.

Prize fund: £60.00 1st prize in each section guaranteed, £30 2nd prize depending on entries.

Ratings / Grading

In all three groups the games will be graded by the ECF and rated by FIDE.  IF YOU HAVE EVER HAD A GRADE OR RATING, you must declare it before entering the Major or Minor, or risk forfeiting a prize.

Entry Fees

Pay online please!  If you are not a member of the ECF you can still play but it will cost you extra, as below;
  • ECF Silver, Gold or Platinum - £25.00
  • Junior Members Under 16 - £23.00
  • ECF Bronze Member + Upgrade Fee - £32.00
  • Junior non member or Bronze Member + Upgrade Fee - £28.00
  • ECF Adult Non Member Fee - £32.00
